Taking a slope out of the back yard, this wall gives a little more flat space behind the house.

An area that will eventually surround a driveway has been neatened up with a low wall with planting boxes.

A closer look at a timber wall with steps in the distance.

Another detail shot.  You can see the angles cut into the timbers for a tight and clean look.  Timbers can also be used for steps.

This is an example of timbers used as a retaining wall.  The dark squares are timbers that go back into the hillside for added strength.

This wall was created as an overlook.  Notice how the wall angles back to keep from toppling.  This is a strong wall.

This wall incorporates several elements:  stairs, a wall, and planter boxes.  The pads, or terraces, of the walkway are done with Omni Stone.

The owners of this home had a small flat area at the bottom of this slope.  To access it, Tuma Lawn Service built timber stairs, flanked planter boxes, and a mulch bank.

Another fine example of how planter boxes can be created out of space formerly thought to be unusable.
